  3. Finale 3.0.2 contains a number of minor bug fixes and enhancements over Finale
  4. 3.0. The new README.WRI (see MISC302.EXE below) contains a comprehensive list 
  5. of the changes.
  6.  
  7. The Finale 3.0.2 updater contains all the files necessary to update Finale
  8. 3.0 to Finale 3.0.2. It consists of two main parts: (1) a patch file which will
  9. update your existing installation of Finale 3.0. This patch will not work unless
  10. you have Finale 3.0 installed already! (2) An archive containing corrections to
  11. a number of templates and a library, as well as an updated README.WRI. This 
  12. archive can be extracted whether or not you have the corresponding files
  13. installed.

  15. The updater consists of the following files:
  16.  
  17. FIN302.EXE -- self extracting archive, containing:
  18.     README.1ST -- this file
  19.     FIN302.RTP -- the patch file
  20.     PATCH.EXE -- the patch program
  21.     MISC302.EXE -- self extracting archive containing:
  22.         TEMPLATE/BAND/FULLCONC.FTM
  23.         TEMPLATE/BAND/JAZZBAND.FTM
  24.         TEMPLATE/BAND/MARCHBND.FTM
  25.         TEMPLATE/GENERAL/INSTRANS.FTM
  26.         TEMPLATE/ORCH/FULLORCH.FTM
  27.         TEMPLATE/ORCH/STRQUART.FTM
  28.         LIBRARY/INSTR/GENMIDI.LIB
  29.         README.WRI
  30.     MISC.BAT -- a batch file that simplifies extracting MISC302.EXE

  33. How To Patch Finale 3.0 to Finale 3.0.2:
  34. ========================================================================
  35.  
  36. The patch program PATCH.EXE is a DOS program. You must either exit Windows, or
  37. run it from inside a DOS shell within Windows.
  38.  
  39. You cannot patch Finale while Finale is running. Exit Finale first.
  40.  
  41. -- Get to a DOS prompt, either by exiting Windows, or launching a DOS shell. If
  42. you launch a DOS shell, be sure Finale is not running.
  43.  
  44. -- Copy the files PATCH.EXE and FIN302.RTP into your Finale directory. This
  45. directory is normally called FINALE3.
  46.  
  47. -- Change to your Finale directory. For example, if Finale was installed in
  48. the directory FINALE3 on drive C:, you should type:
  49.  
  50.     C:
  51.     CD \FINALE3
  52.  
  53. -- Type the following to run the patch program:
  54.  
  55.     PATCH FIN302.RTP
  56.  
  57. -- The patching operation will take a few minutes to complete. If it completes
  58. without errors, you can delete PATCH.EXE and FIN302.RTP.
  59.  
  60. -- The patching operation is complete!
  61.  
  62. A WORD OF EXPLANATION: Patching is a common way to distribute updates to
  63. programs that are already installed. If you have used patches before for
  64. other software, you may notice that FIN302.RTP is considerably larger than
  65. most patch files. The reason for this is that, although Finale 3.0.2 contains
  66. changes that are relatively minor, both Finale 3.0 and Finale 3.0.2 are
  67. compressed programs. This means that the binary images of the programs are
  68. considerably different, even though the changes are relatively minor. It is 
  69. perfectly normal for a patch file to be quite large under these circumstances.

  72. How to extract MISC302.EXE:
  73. ========================================================================
  74.  
  75. MISC302.EXE is a self-extracting archive containing an updated README.WRI and
  76. some corrections to templates and libraries. These corrections are described
  77. below.
  78.  
  79.     README.WRI -- contains a comprehensive list of the changes in Finale 3.0.2,
  80.         including a number of minor new features
  81.  
  82.     LIBRARY/INSTR/GENMIDI.LIB -- corrects an incorrect channel assignment for
  83.         channel 10
  84.  
  85.     TEMPLATE/BAND/FULLCONC.FTM
  86.     TEMPLATE/BAND/JAZZBAND.FTM
  87.     TEMPLATE/BAND/MARCHBND.FTM
  88.     TEMPLATE/GENERAL/INSTRANS.FTM
  89.     TEMPLATE/ORCH/FULLORCH.FTM -- corrected transpositions for tenor sax,
  90.         piccolo, contra bassoon, and double bass
  91.  
  92.     TEMPLATE/ORCH/STRQUART.FTM -- replaces STRQURT.FTM. Only the name has 
  93.         changed.

  95. If you have not made any changes to the original templates and library shipped
  96. with Finale 3.0, and if you installed the files in the same directories as
  97. listed above, you can simply extract the changes as follows:
  98.  
  99. -- Get to a DOS prompt, either by exiting Windows, or launching a DOS shell. 
  100.  
  101. -- Copy the files MISC.BAT and MISC302.EXE into your Finale directory. This 
  102. directory is normally called FINALE3.
  103.  
  104. -- Change to your Finale directory. For example, if Finale was installed in
  105. the directory FINALE3 on drive C:, you should type:
  106.  
  107.     C:
  108.     CD \FINALE3
  109.  
  110. -- Type the following to extract the archive:
  111.  
  112.     MISC
  113.  
  114. -- The extraction process will extract the files listed above into their
  115. default directories, overwriting the old copies of those files.
  116.  
  117. -- The extraction operation is complete!
  118.  
  119. If you made any changes to the library or templates listed, you should rename 
  120. those files or copy them to a safe location during the extraction process.
  121. Alternatively, you can run the extracter directly by typing:
  122.  
  123.     MISC302
  124.  
  125. This will extract all files to the current directory rather than the default
  126. subdirectories. It will ask you before overwriting any existing files of the
  127. same name.
  128.

  130. Cleanup
  131. ========================================================================
  132.  
  133. You should save a copy of FIN302.EXE on a floppy or in another location 
  134. should you ever need to reinstall Finale. If such a situation arises, you 
  135. will need to install Finale 3.0 from your original distribution disks, then 
  136. perform the update process again.
  137.  
  138. After you have completed the update process and saved a copy of FIN302.EXE, 
  139. you can delete the following files from your Finale directory:
  140.  
  141. FIN302.EXE
  142. README.1ST
  143. FIN302.RTP
  144. PATCH.EXE
  145. MISC302.EXE
  146. MISC.BAT
  147.
